Parrot Island Medium Formulated Diet Mixture: 4 Pound
We recommend the Medium Formulated Diet Mixture for any bird from Senegal or Conure size up to the largest of Parrot species.
PLEASE NOTE: This mixture is available in two formulas. You will be able to choose which formula you would like in the Available Options box located above. The details of how to determine which formula is best for your bird are shown below.
The Adult/Low Stress Mix (in the top picture at right) is recommended for birds over 1 year old who are not under stress or in need of weight gain. This diet is the one that suits the average needs bird best.
The Juvenile/Special Needs Mixture (in the bottom picture at right) is recommended for birds under one year of age, or those who are heavily molting, or under stress and HAVE been diagnosed by an Avian Veterinarian as being underweight or in need of a diet with elevated fats and protein. We also recommend this diet for most African Greys, Cockatoos, Eclectus and the larger Macaws.
This is a mixture of 4 different formulated diets. We recommend the mixing of several formulated diets as we have found great benefit in doing so with our personal companion birds.
***PLEASE NOTE: Harrison's Bird Diet is one of the 4 foods mentioned above. Although it is pictured mixed in with the other 3 diets it will be sent to you separately from the other foods in its' own packaging per Harrison's guidelines.
The two primary benefits are:
1) Since no one company has enough research to have a "perfect" diet for all types of companion birds (there may never be one) we find that offering a mixture of several of the best companies foods is a great way to compensate for this. Our birds get the benefit of these several companies research and ideas on companion bird nutrition as opposed to only one of them.
2) We have found over many years of observation of our birds as well as hundreds of our customers birds that they will continue to eat this part of the diet as 1/3 to 1/2 (our exact recommended percentage depends on the specific species) of the total over the long term of their lifespans as opposed to getting bored with only one if that is all that is offered. They may switch around as to which are their favorites - but they continue to eat enough of this part of the diet to satisfy their dietary needs.
