Avian Specific Full Spectrum Light Bulb
This is the same bulb we use with our personal parrots. It has been the best we can find after over 8 years of research along with Dr. Tammy Jenkins of St. Francis Animal & Bird Hospital. It produces the correct range of UVB light for our birds to correctly metabolize the calcium and to a lesser degree, the Vitamin A in their diet. Household glass (newer than that manufactured pre-World War 2) filters out approximately 95% of the UV from sunlight.
These lights should be placed 2 feet or closer to the bird for the most benefit. They should be used only on a light timer. Please contact us as to the specific length of time as well as the time of day to use these bulbs as it varies by the species of bird that you have.
Our Acrylic Light Holder has been designed for usage with this bulb. It holds the bulb about 4" from the cage in such a way that the bird can not reach it. Although designed to work with our acrylic cages - it can work on any cage with a flat, level area on its top that is large enough to fit it.
Please Note: The Reflector MUST be used with this bulb if you are using our Light Holder. We would also recommend using the Reflector if the lamp you use does not already have one.
Always be sure that the light cord and bulb are not within reach of your bird at any time
Please Note: All of the bulbs used in the various lighting products we sell are guaranteed to hold the correct spectrum for 1 year from the date of purchase! At that point (even if they are still lighting) the phosphors which allow the light to remain in the correct spectrum will have degraded to the point where replacement is necessary. We encourage people to write the date that they begin using the bulbs on the base of the bulb (or somewhere unobtrusive) and that you check it regularly.
